I’m Home For The Holidays This Year. And That Feels A Little Weird.

One of the downside to attending Drexel is the co-op program. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great program and I think it’s a model other universities should copy, but the timing of it isn’t necessarily in your favor. I was put on the Fall/Winter cycle, which definitely was in my favor for going to Australia last year (oh how I miss that weather), but it always made December an awkward time of year. Normally, Drexel is off for most of December, which is the longest break you get here at Drexel. If you’re on co-op however, you’re at the mercy of your employer. My week in Sydney last year was the longest Christmas break I’ve had since 2010.

No, that’s not joke. And I suppose it’s a reality of the “real world”. While in 2011 and 2012 I technically was home as my co-ops were in Princeton, I think only had Christmas Day off, maybe Eve in 2011 as well. Nothing like the roughly four weeks in 2010. This year, I do have those four weeks, and I’m in California for just under two of them. And that feels a little weird. I’m very much looking forward to it since I haven’t been to California since summer of 2009 (assuming that timestamp on the reference photo is correct). But I guess I’ve gotten used to having a short break.

Am I happy that I’ll be home this year? Of course. It’s something I’m counting down to. I’m just glad most of it will be spent in California because honestly, I don’t know what I’d do during it otherwise. Having a genuine break for the first time in four years is kind of weird.
